Slow cooked to perfection! Serve this with baked potatoes for a full barbeque dinner that the family will devour! When I think about the easiest Crockpot dinner recipes to make for my family, this Crockpot BBQ Chicken comes to mind every single time. Honestly, this might be the easiest slow cooker meal idea of all time! It’s so, so simple to put this together. The result is a very tender barbeque chicken that barely need a knife to cut – in fact I usually just use my fork! We like having extra BBQ sauce for dipping the chicken in as well when we have this dinner. Can you just put raw chicken in a slow cooker? Absolutely! Chicken is perfect for the Crockpot because it allows the other ingredients to really come together and flavor the chicken. How long does chicken take to cook in a Crockpot? Boneless skinless chicken breast is usually done on low setting for 6 hours or high setting for 3 – 4 hours. The internal temperature should be at 165 degrees in the thickest part of the meat. What’s in this recipe? I honestly keep all of the BBQ sauce ingredients in my pantry so I’d bet you have most of these items too! You’ll need about 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, a bottle of BBQ sauce (whatever your favorite brand), white vinegar, packed brown sugar, and garlic powder. Can a brown sugar substitute be used? Probably! If you have a brown sugar substitute that measures exactly like typical brown sugar, it should work in this recipe. How to make this recipe: We’re going to use a homemade (more like doctored up) BBQ sauce to spread over the chicken in the slow cooker. So grab a medium sized bowl and whisk together the white vinegar, brown sugar, BBQ sauce, and garlic powder. Keep whisking until the sauce is smooth and pourable. 2. Using tongs, arrange the four boneless skinless chicken breasts in the bottom of the Crockpot. You can line the Crockpot with one of those plastic liner bags if you want for easier cleanup later. Then, pour the BBQ sauce mixture over top of the chicken breast. Use the whisk to make sure it’s spread evenly over the top of the chicken. 3. Place the cover on the slow cooker. Set it for low for 6 hours, or high for 4 hours. The chicken is done when the internal temperature of the thickest part of the chicken breast is at least 165 degrees. You’ll need a cooking thermometer for this step so if you don’t have one already, go over to Amazon and grab yourself one! It comes in handy for cooking meat! Serve with additional BBQ sauce if you want! What goes well with barbecue chicken? Potatoes! Baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, potato wedges, or even French fries in the air fryer! You could also do corn on the cob for a true BBQ dinner. Doesn’t that sound absolutely delicious?! Can I use frozen chicken in this recipe? Yes, but you’ll have to thaw it first before using it in the Crockpot. I used to use frozen chicken breast directly in the slow cooker without thawing, but I’ve since learned that can definitely be a food safety hazard! Chicken can be thawed in the refrigerator overnight or by running it under cool water for a while until completely thawed. How many does this recipe serve? It depends on how much chicken each person will eat, but I would say 6 – 8 servings for this recipe. I like to use the larger chicken breasts so a serving for us is half of a BBQ chicken breast. Can this be frozen? Yes! You can make this an easy freezer meal by freezing the BBQ sauce mixture in a container and the chicken breast in a freezer bag. Thaw overnight in the fridge and proceed with the recipe as stated in the directions. Don’t forget to but the cooking directions on the front of the bag!
