Perfect for a weeknight dinner! This recipe for Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes has been a family staple around here for years and year. We just love it! A simple mix of ground beef and pantry staple ingredients, then warmed in the slow cooker, make such a winning combination. And super easy to pull together at the last minute, too! What’s in this recipe? Can frozen ground beef be used? Sure, just thaw in the microwave or in the refrigerator before proceeding with the recipe directions. Do I have to use the green pepper? Nope! I skip it if I don’t have any on hand. How to make this recipe: Brown the ground beef and green pepper in a deep skillet. 2. Drain and transfer mixture to a slow cooker. Add in ketchup, brown sugar, mustard and garlic powder. 3. Mix well, cover, and cook on low. Serve on rolls! How much does this recipe make? It will depend on how much you fill the rolls, but I get about 8 – 10 sandwiches from one batch. Can this recipe be doubled for a crowd? Yes! Make sure you have a large Crockpot and add an additional 1 hour to the slow cooking time to be sure it’s heated through. I don’t have time, can I just make this on the stove top? Yes, I have done this many times! Just simmer the mixture on low for about 10 minutes before serving. Kelly says July 1, 2011 at 3:18 pm That's so interesting, Crystal I would have never thought to do that. I'll definitely be trying that method the next time I can find the 90% lean for a reasonable price, I would think anything other than that would create too much grease. Thanks for the fabulous idea! Kelly Miller says November 8, 2021 at 4:19 pm It heats up the other ingredients to further enhance the flavor. You could just cook it on the stove top for 10 minutes, like I listed above in the text. Reply
Ellen says July 4, 2023 at 10:14 pm I just made and enjoyed the sloppy joe recipe! Was wondering about using 8 ounces of tomato sauce instead of the ketchup? I know that the canned versions even have small chunks of tomato in them. I may also throw in some chopped onion with the bell peppers! Keep the recipes coming! Thank you and Happy 4th! I also ate my sandwich topped with some coleslaw. Reply
