Serve with sour cream or BBQ sauce! If you’re looking for a new family friendly dinner that super simple to prep, you have to try this Chicken Tater Tot Casserole! I absolutely love recipes like this where you just layer the ingredients in the Crockpot, turn it on, and let it go. Plus, who doesn’t love classic tater tots?! Do you thaw the tater tots first? Nope! Use them frozen in this recipe, they will thaw and cook in the slow cooker. Can you use frozen chicken instead of fresh? It’s always recommended to thaw meat BEFORE cooking in the Crockpot. I used to do that, but in my research I’ve found the meat stays in the “danger zone” temperature for too long as it slow cooks, and it’s just not a risk I’m willing to take. Use thawed chicken in this recipe. How to make Chicken Tater Tot Casserole: Spray the inside of a Crockpot with non stick spray. Then layer half the frozen tater tots, 1/3 the cheese, and 1/3 the bacon. Lay chicken over top. Sprinkle minced onion, garlic, 1/3 bacon, and 1/3 cheese next. Then top with remaining tater tots, bacon, and cheese. Cook on HIGH setting. How long does this take to cook in the Crockpot? This one only takes 4 hours on LOW setting. Can Chicken Tater Tot Casserole leftovers be frozen? Leftovers can be frozen for future individual meals – that is if you have any leftovers!
