Chicken breast slow cooks in Italian dressing, onion, soup mix, and garlic. Perfect served on rolls with slices of Swiss cheese! I think this recipe for Crockpot Shredded Chicken is the quintessential slow cooker recipe that literally EVERYONE needs to make at least once. And I can guarantee it won’t only be once after taste it. This dinner is SO EASY to throw together and turn on. Seriously, if you have 5 minutes in the morning to just toss in the Crockpot, you’ll have an easy meal waiting for your family at the end of the day. LOVE IT! What’s in this recipe? Can frozen chicken breast be used? Or do I need to thaw them? You need to thaw them. Some people are comfortable using frozen chicken breasts in the Crockpot, but the official ruling on that is it’s not food safe. I wouldn’t chance it, just thaw them under cool running water if you’re starting with frozen! Can I use regular Italian dressing instead of Zesty Italian? Absolutely! How to make this recipe: Place chicken breasts into the slow cooker and sprinkle dry onion soup mix on top. 2. Drizzle Italian salad dressing, water, and garlic salt over chicken. Turn pieces to coat well. 3. Cover and cook. 4. Shred cooked chicken with a hand mixer. Be careful if it splatters, it’s HOT! Serve on rolls with slices of Swiss cheese! Can I substitute chicken thighs? Sure! You’ll need about 1.5 – 2 lbs of boneless skinless chicken thighs. Recipe pro tips: Swap out the Swiss cheese for sliced mozzarella for a more Italian flair Use hot dog buns if that’s what you have on hand For parties, switch the setting to “keep warm” and have tongs and a basket of rolls next to it for guests to serve themselves Use flour tortillas instead of rolls for shredded chicken wraps More recipes you’ll love: Baked Lemon Pepper Chicken Italian Dijon Pork Chops BEST Chicken Noodle Soup Recipe Oven Roasted Turkey Breast If you liked this recipe, leave a rating and a comment below this post! Jane @ Going Jane says September 20, 2011 at 11:01 am Awwww….I'm so glad you liked it! You can even improvise it a little – one day I was out of dry onion soup mix so I used a dip mix from Tastefully Simple that had been sitting in my pantry for ages – it was awesome, too! 🙂 Reply

Stringy34 says April 11, 2012 at 12:38 am Can you double or triple this recipe? I don't use my crock pot that often, but was looking at making this for a party. Thoughts? Any help greatly appreciated 🙂 Thanks! Reply
Kelly says April 11, 2012 at 10:51 am I would think you could definitely double the recipe, though I'm not sure there would be enough room in the crock for tripling. That's a great idea to make this for a party, I'm going to keep that in mind! Reply

Jenny says June 4, 2013 at 5:13 pm does it have like a bottle of italian dressing or a packet of italian dressing mix? Reply
Cathy Thooft says October 7, 2021 at 3:46 pm Very easy to make !! I really like the taste. I added a bit of tumeric and used regular Italian dressing. I had the packet of dried Italian dressing that I add to vinegar, olive oil and water. All things I had on hand. Reply
