Amish Baked Oatmeal By Kelly Miller • September8,2020 • 38 Comments 64.8K 29 Jump to Recipe Jump to Video Amish Baked Oatmeal is such a great breakfast recipe! Quick oats, sugar, milk, egg – you can’t go wrong with this sweet baked oatmeal for the family! You won’t find a simpler homemade breakfast than this classic Amish Baked Oatmeal! Mix up a batch, or double a batch, pop it in a baking dish, and into the oven. Hot and sweet baked oatmeal ready at a moment’s notice! Amish baked oatmeal can be served plain, or scoop some in bowls and top with cold milk – just like cereal. This is the way my kids love to eat it, and me too if I’m being honest! You could even sprinkle a little cinnamon on top to make it extra special! What’s in this recipe? Pantry staple ingredients are all you need for this breakfast recipe: How to make this recipe: Whisk egg in a mixing bowl. Add in milk, softened butter, oil, and vanilla. 3. Add in sugar, baking powder, salt, and oats. 4. Mix ingredients well. 5. Spread into a greased baking dish. 6. Bake and cool. Serve with milk if desired. Can old fashioned or rolled oats be used? Yes! The resulting baked oatmeal will have a chewy consistency instead. But still delicious! Can sugar alternatives be used in this recipe? I have had several readers over the years tell me they’ve substituted sugar alternatives, brown sugar, even honey in this recipe. You can even change the amount of sugar if you’d like. This is kind of a foolproof recipe – feel free to experiment! Pro tips: Mix up the oatmeal, spread it into the dish, and pop it in the fridge – then just bake in the morning! Double and triple this recipe as your family needs Add in raisins, dried cranberries, chopped walnuts – even miniature chocolate chips take this breakfast to another level! Leslie says September 8, 2013 at 5:04 pm I have made this 4x in the past two weeks. My family loves this. I do recommend using half the sugar. I made it the first time with all the sugar and found it very sweet and I like my sugar. This morning I doubled the recipe and used a bit less than the half cup called for. It was perfect. Reply

CH says October 27, 2014 at 7:05 am I have made this every week recently and everyone loves it! The only change I've made is using coconut oil instead of butter (it's just what I had on hand) and it gives it GREAT flavor! Reply

Sha says July 11, 2018 at 4:58 pm Do you have any recipes that are gluten free and dairy free? Or suggestions for converting any? Thanks Reply
Kelly Miller says July 11, 2018 at 9:35 pm We’re not a gluten free/dairy free family so I’m afraid I don’t have a ton of recipes for those dietary needs. I would recommend searching on Pinterest for some gluten free/dairy free recipes that interest you to discover some blogs with those types of recipes. Thanks for visiting, Sha! Reply
Gina SF says July 28, 2018 at 2:12 pm This is one of my family’s favorite! However this year we have had to eliminate nuts, eggs, dairy and processed sugar. I use a mashed banana as a replacement for the egg, coconut milk for the milk and coconut oil for the oil and butter. I use honey or maple syrup with a same ration for the sugar. I always tend to add pumpkin spice or cinnamon and dried fruits to make it different each time. Thank you for this, thought I would share how we use it! Reply
Kelly Miller says August 1, 2018 at 8:31 pm Thank you for sharing your version of this recipe, I’m other readers with the same dietary restrictions will find it very helpful! So glad you enjoyed this! Reply
