Made with just 4 ingredients: eggnog, milk, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream. Add a pinch of ground nutmeg to take this delicious Christmas drink over the top for friends and family! Eggnog is one of those seasonal flavors that people either love or hate. In our family, we unanimously LOVE eggnog and I really try to sneak in the flavors of eggnog wherever I can. After all, it’s really only at Christmas time that we get to enjoy this decadent flavor! When our older boys were little, the eggnog flavor was a bit too strong. In an attempt to dial back the intensity, I mixed their eggnog with chocolate milk. Voila! A new favorite family treat was created. The moral of telling you all of this is that, if you have a family member who doesn’t enjoy eggnog, give this Chocolate Eggnog a try with them – they might just be pleasantly surprised. Be sure to have enough ingredients to make a second round, too! What’s in this recipe? Just 4 ingredients for this amazing Christmas drink: prepared eggnog, milk, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream. I like to sprinkle some ground nutmeg over the top of the whipped cream, but that’s definitely optional. You could use cinnamon instead! What kind of eggnog is used for this recipe? Just grab the carton or jug of eggnog that’s at your local grocery store in the dairy section. The vast majority of stores will start carrying eggnog near the milk around Thanksgiving and usually keep it stocked for New Year’s Eve parties. Can I use dairy free eggnog and milk in this recipe? Sure! Substitute for your favorite variety of eggnog and milk that fits your dietary needs. What size mugs or glasses are needed: You’ll need 2 large 16 oz glass pedestal mugs, or the equivalent glasses. You could use 8 ounce mugs or glasses for smaller servings as well. What kind of whipped cream is used? I like to just keep it simple and use the kind from a can, but use whatever whipped cream you prefer. How to make this recipe: Add cold milk to a bowl and add in the chocolate syrup. Whisk until well combined. A smaller whisk works well for this task because it keeps the milk from splashing around too much! Divide the chocolate milk between two glasses. Fill up each glass the rest of the way with chilled eggnog. Gently mix each glass to combine well. Use that smaller whisk again for this, it works so well to not make a mess! Top each glass with whipped cream and sprinkle with ground nutmeg. Serve immediately! I like to find some fun holiday colored straws to drink these with! Would it be so fun to make up travel cups filled with chocolate eggnog for the family to take with on a trip around the neighborhood to see Christmas lights?! Ahh I just love Christmas memories like those! Can this be made ahead of time for a party? Sure! Just double or triple the amounts as needed and keep in a punch bowl covered in plastic wrap (or some other covered container) in the refrigerator. Set the whipped cream, nutmeg, and straws out for guests to serve themselves. How fun! How long does this chocolate eggnog stay good for? This is best made immediately before intending to serve. A larger batch can be made up to 2 hours ahead of serving time and should be consumed within 2 hours of setting out. You wouldn’t want the diary in the milk and the eggnog to sit at room temperature for very long! Recipe pro tips: Be sure to use large glass mugs or tall drinking glasses rather than regular mugs – this makes 2 large servings Swap out the ground nutmeg for ground cinnamon Skip the whipped cream if you’re serving these to-go in travel cups Serve these with some homemade cookies on the side More recipes you’ll like: Eggnog Cheesecake Dip Eggnog Coffee Cake Eggnog Sugar Cookie Cups Pineapple Zucchini Bread If you liked this recipe, leave a rating and a comment below this post!
