Copycat Beer Bread & Garlic Dip

March 4, 2015
Just flour, sugar, beer, and butter needed for this amazing beer bread - goes perfect with a simple garlic dip! Great for your next party!

Many, many, MANY moons ago I was a 2nd grade teacher at a small private Christian elementary school, just graduated from college, and was looking for a way to earn some extra money. I was truly in love with my job as a teacher, but unfortunately with the amount of my student loans, and the small amount I was getting paid, I really needed to look for something part time.

I went to one of those food demonstration parties - I won't mention the company, but you can probably guess which one I'm referring to! The food was SO YUMMY! I fell in love with the idea of doing parties and selling re-sell-able products, that I became a consultant.

Honestly? If I hadn't stumbled into blogging, I probably would have continued! I really had a lot of fun and I did make a small amount of extra money each month. With married life and two young kids though, and working full time, it left little time for anything else - besides keeping up with Mostly Homemade Mom, something I could do at home.

My absolute FAVORITE product that I sold was the beer bread. It was a delicious, buttery bread, just a tad sweet, and perfect for dipping. It was one of the things we really missed when I stopped being a consultant because you know what? I just couldn't justify the price.

I'm cheap, people. You know that. :)

Over the years, I can't tell you how many knock off recipes I've tried - NONE of which even came close to the flavor I knew and loved. Until this one! I really, really love how simple the ingredients are. I know self-rising flour isn't something most people keep on hand in their pantry, I know I don't, but it was cheap and I'll be able to make quite a few beer breads with the flour. This is perfect for parties or home movie night. We actually gobbled it up for lunch!

Copycat Beer Bread & Garlic Dip

  • 3 cups self rising flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 12 oz beer
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 teaspoons minced garlic
Cooking Directions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, stir together flour and sugar. Pour in beer and stir until moistened, batter will be thick.
  2. Spread into a greased loaf pan. Drizzle melted butter evenly over top.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-55 minutes. Cool completely.
  4. Meanwhile, in a small container, stir together sour cream, mayo, and garlic. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight.
  5. When ready to serve, slice bread and cut into cubes and serve with dip.

I'm telling you, this will be the first appetizer to go at your next gathering! Make it easier on yourself, and prepackage the dry ingredients for the bread in sealed ziploc bags. Then just dump, mix in the beer, and you're ready for fresh beer bread whenever the mood strikes!
