Is there anything more fun than getting the kids in the kitchen during the holidays? Messy, maybe. Your kitchen will look like a tornado hit it in 30 minutes flat. But fun, definitely fun! I really have enjoyed these mornings I’ve had with just Wesley and baby Reuben. In all honesty, Reuben is not much help – in fact he interrupts our cooking sessions at the worst possible times – ha! But, what can you expect from a 2 month old, right?! Wesley has lately been getting REALLY into helping me in the kitchen. Especially when it comes to anything “treat” related. You should have seen his eyes light up when I came home and told him we’d be making Christmas Rice Krispies Treats® last week! It’s seriously one of the best recipes to have the kiddos help with. I had him help count the scoops of cereal in the mixing bowl, then we counting how many tablespoons of butter before he put it in the pot. Of course I did the cooking part, but then when we were ready to decorate, he was right there with me. I did have to watch he didn’t take a swipe of chocolate before they had set! It’s such a special time, just him and me. Love it! These special Chocolate Covered Gingerbread Rice Krispies Treats® are absolutely perfect as a dessert for the family this time of year – and once the chocolate hardens and sets, these make wonderful gifts as well. I love that the classic 3-ingredient Rice Krispies Treats recipe can be so versatile with adding other ingredients and decorations to make it festive for the holidays! It will be REALLY hard to not eat the whole batch before serving them to guests, that’s for sure!
