Owl 1st Birthday Party By Kelly Miller • April20,2013 • Updated January 26, 2022 • 13 Comments 962 5 Last month we celebrated my nephew, Elliott, as he turned one! Ever since he took to a cute Skip Hop owl toy, that’s kind of been his thing. So naturally my sister wanted to do an owl themed party – so Pinterest-y right now, too! The three of us (myself, my sister, Renee, and my mom) really love planning parties and I think this one came together so well! Since I’m fairly good with Photoshop, I took care of all the printed party supplies. Renee picked out this ADORABLE digital scrapbooking kit called What A Hoot by Melissa Bennett. Here is a breakdown of the party details. Enjoy! (from the graphic above) 1. Owl Topper Favors – Kelly from Treasured Collections Etsy Shop was so kind to send us some owl favor toppers for the party! Aren’t these absolutely adorable? Her toppers come fully assembled and she even includes the clear bags – all you need to do is add the treats and attach! She has a wonderful shop with lots of other favor toppers, gift card holders, and more. Be sure to stop by! We gave these out to the kiddos. 2. Place settings for the kids, I just printed extra favor toppers with their names for place cards. 3. Owl Food Favors – Renee and Chris had quite the crowd for Elliott’s party! Because of that, Renee made up lots of extra owl food mix (peanuts, raisins, M&Ms, and pretzels) and gave these favors to the adults. Kid Stuff 4. Owl Painting Baskets – Renee had the kids at the party paint these adorable ceramic owls from Oriental Trading to take home. Silas and Wesley’s owls are still displayed in our kitchen, so cute! 5. Kids’ Table – We used brown plastic table covers, with a printed lime green and white tree runner (purchased at Target, Renee just cut a strip of the table cover to make the runner), and a wide burlap ribbon. 6. Kids’ Gift Bags – These were great to put the dry painted owls in for the kids to take home. Of course Renee bought all kinds of treats for the kids, too! 7. Owl Masks – from Oriental Trading and a basket of old shirts for the kids when they were painting. Personalized Party Decorations 8. 12 Months Clothesline – We hung a clothesline and clipped pictures of Elliott at each month with a printed label. This is especially great for family members and friends who hadn’t been able to see Elliott much during the year. 9. Being One Poem – Renee sent me this adorable poem so I made it into an 8×10 print with one of our favorite pictures from Elliott’s first birthday photoshoot. Here’s the poem in case you want to use it: Toes no longer tiny, just small A mind like a sponge, thirsty to learn more So many changes in you taking place You sprout like a weed in a growing race So much more to grow before you’re done But for now we’ll enjoy every moment of you Being one 10. Chalkboard Sign – to welcome guests on the porch. My grandfather painted that wooden owl (and others) to decorate with – so cute! 11. High Chair Pennant – I made two pennants, a small one that we hung above Elliott’s high chair, and a large one that went over the dessert table. Of course I forgot to snap a picture of the large one. :/ Party Food 12. Chocolate Owl Taffies – Renee found small owl candy molds on Etsy and made them with chocolate melts. I love them stuck in the mini hay bales! 13. Cupcakes Stand – with printed cupcake toppers. Renee found the green owl on clearance at Target to use at the top of the cupcake stand. 14. Owl Cake – Renee’s amazingly talented friend Beth made the cake and all the cupcakes. She even made polka dots in colors that matched the theme. Not only were they gorgeous, they were delicious too! Beth has an Etsy shop where she sells crafts too, be sure and check that out. 🙂 15. Dessert Table – In addition to the treats listed above, we also served Milky Way Stuffed Rice Krispie Treats (do they look familiar?), Chocolate Dipped Smores, and Dirt Cups (chocolate mousse, crushed oreos, and gummy worms). Needless to say, everyone went home with a sugar rush! Yummy! **Not pictured – The “regular food” menu included pulled pork sliders, cole slaw, chicken fingers, sweet potato fries, Calico Baked Beans, and Avocado Bean Dip. 16. Elliott’s Invitations – I made these also using the What a Hoot kit. My favorite is the title – “Look whoo’s turning one!” So cute. 🙂 When I first started typing up this part of the post, I had to stop because I was getting choked up. Haha! Being an aunt to this cutie pie is amazing. Although it has given me a brand new perspective of the phrase, “They grow up too fast.” I wish I could see you every day, Elliott. I feel like each time we’re together, you’re already doing something new! Go easy on your Aunt Kelly, ok booger? 🙂 Don’t miss another Semi Homemade Mom post! Click here to have new posts delivered by email. {linking up!} 962 5
