Crushed Oreo cookies, Dum Dum lollipops, gummy worms and paper cupcake liners make these DIY cupcakes so easy!! I made these sweet little Lollipop Flower Cupcakes for my adorable nephew, Elliott’s, 5th birthday. We weren’t able to fully celebrate with him the week before on his actual birthday, so I think these put a smile on his face. They definitely put a smile on my face, especially after the weekend we had just had. It was a rough one for the Miller household, friends. We took the kids to a local children’s museum and playground to celebrate Elliott’s birthday. Of course it was a beautiful day, so after a while inside, they were climbing all over the outside playground. Silas and Wesley were climbing and jumping from a very high platform, down to another platform, something that I was encouraging them to do. After all, the previous summer at our old house they spend hours every day climbing and swinging on the monkey bars. The first jump from platform to platform, both of them did just fine. On Silas’ second attempt, unfortunately, that was not the case. His foot slipped from the high platform and he landed, hard, on his right elbow. I could tell immediately it was broken. Less than 24 hours later he was out of surgery, cast was set, and I was sitting with him as he was relaxing with his breakfast watching Big Hero 6 in his hospital room. On Friday he had a great follow up appointment with his surgeon, his arm is healing nicely, he expects his lingering nerve issue to resolve soon, and he’ll be getting his cast off in 2 weeks – luckily before we go on vacation. But, of course you could imagine, the guilt I’ve felt. Countless doctors, nurses, and even my family have told me to not beat myself up over this, kids do these things, it was an accident. And I know they’re right, but it’s hard when the events of that day keep replaying in my mind. Despite the guilt, I feel like the best mom in the world, not because of what all of them were saying, but because of how Silas was. He wanted me there in the ER, in the ambulance, and in the hospital with him overnight – because I make him feel safe and loved. Loved more than he could ever possibly know. These cupcakes are so bright, they would cheer anyone up going through a rough week like we just did! And they are absolutely perfect for celebrating birthdays as well! I’m telling you, these are the easiest cupcakes and no one would know it with how impressive they turn out! If you try cutting the scallop shape out of the cupcake liners and it’s not working out, just use them with their normal shape – that would work just fine. If I could do this, you could, too!
