Chai Latte Cake

This fun twist on a coffee cake uses cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves just like a hot cup of chai tea! Top this amazing cake with a cinnamon buttercream frosting, and you have a perfect dessert recipe for brunch, too!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup milk

For frosting:

  • 6 tbsp butter softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, stir together spices, salt, baking powder, and flour.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla until fluffy. While mixer is on low, alternate adding in flour mixture and milk until all ingredients are blended well.
  • Spread batter into a greased square baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 – 35 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean. Cool completely.
  • For frosting, beat together ingredients adding only 3 tablespoons of milk and adding an additional tablespoon of milk as needed. Spread frosting onto cooled cake. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
