Classic Ugly Pie recipe filled with granny smith apples, chopped walnuts, raisins, and molasses - there's nothing ugly about the flavor of this delicious classic pie!

Ingredients

  • 9 inch pie crust thawed according to package directions
  • 6 cups Granny Smith apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 5 tbsp flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup walnuts finely chopped

For crumb topping:

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup butter cold
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix together apples, lemon juice, and molasses. 
  • Add in flour, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to combine well. Stir in raisins and walnuts.
  • Place pie crust into a deep dish pie plate. Fill with apple filling.
  • For topping, place flour, cold butter, and brown sugar in a deep bowl. Using a pastry cutter or two knives, combine until you have coarse crumbs. Sprinkle evenly over pie.
  • Cover with foil and bake at 400 degrees for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20 minutes. Cool completely before serving.
