Crockpot Mashed Potatoes (VIDEO) By Kelly Miller • October28,2019 • 4 Comments 388 Jump to Recipe Jump to VideoCrockpot Mashed Potatoes are so easy! Fresh potatoes in the slow cooker with butter, milk, sour cream and seasonings. Keep on warm setting until ready to serve! I’m literally ALWAYS looking for ways to make Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinner easier to pull together. One of the side dishes that is always expected, but always annoying to make is mashed potatoes. These Crockpot Mashed Potatoes are extremely simple with the added bonus of freeing up the oven for the huge turkey or ham to cook for hours! When the mashed potatoes are ready, just switch your slow cooker to “keep warm” setting. You may need to add a bit more chicken broth or milk to moisten it more if it’s going to be sitting for a while. Either way, these mashed potatoes taste amazing! Why did my potatoes turn brown in the Crockpot? This just has to do with the air surrounding the potatoes. I promise, they will be creamy and delicious even if some of the potatoes are slightly brown after slow cooking! How long do potatoes take in slow cooker? 4 hours on high setting. Can I make mashed potatoes ahead of time and keep in Crockpot? Absolutely! Even if you’re making your usual recipe, just transfer cooked mashed potatoes to the Crockpot and set to keep warm. How to make Crockpot Mashed Potatoes: Peel and chop 5 lbs of potatoes. Place potatoes, chicken broth, and butter in a Crockpot. Cover and cook on high setting. Remove lid. Add sour cream, seasonings, and milk. Use a hand mixer to beat the ingredients together until smooth, adding milk and more salt and pepper as needed. Stir well with a spoon to make sure no chunks remain. Switch to keep warm setting and serve out of slow cooker. Do I have to use the garlic powder and onion powder? Nope! Feel free to omit those seasoning, but we really like garlic mashed potatoes around here! Can you freeze leftover mashed potatoes? Absolutely! Seal tightly in a container before freezing. Tena says December 6, 2022 at 9:04 pm Too much sour cream. The potato flavor was lost in the sour cream. Reply
Kelly Miller says December 9, 2022 at 2:22 pm I’m sorry you didn’t like the flavor, Tena. Are you sure you used the listed amounts in the recipe? It’s only 1 cup of sour cream for 5 lbs of potatoes. Reply
