Amish Pear Crumb Pie

This classic Amish Pear Crumb Pie comes together so quick and easy! Fresh picked, juicy pears seasoned with cinnamon and nutmeg, with a butter and brown sugar crumble on top!





A few years ago I shared one of our favorite breakfast recipes, Amish Baked Oatmeal. I have made that breakfast many, many times and I'm so glad you all seem to love it too - it's one of my most visited recipe posts to date!

I mentioned in one of my most recent posts that we recently moved back to Lancaster County, PA - the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. I didn't grow up here and neither did Paul. We both were born in Philadelphia and lived in and around the city and didn't move out here to Central PA until Silas was about 3 months old. I have to say, it didn't take us long to get used to living here! It may be rural, but there is no shortage of shops, restaurants, theme parks, and family-friendly activities in our area. Not to mention, it's just stunning simply taking a drive. 





I think it's only fitting to share another amazing Amish recipe that I've come across since living here. I've made this amazing dessert several times, and I've made my own tweaks to make it just how we like it. You may recognize the crumb topping recipe... it's the same as in my Pastor's Wife Apple Pie! You just can't go wrong with that crumb topping, I'm telling you!


Amish Pear Crumb Pie

A classic fruit pie with fresh pears and a sweet brown sugar crumb topping!

Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients:
9 inch pie crust
7 pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
1/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cold butter
1 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
Instructions:
  • Place unbaked pie crust inside glass pie plate.
  • In a large bowl, gently mix sliced pears, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Spread into pie crust.
  • In a medium bowl, blend cold butter, flour, and brown sugar with a pastry blender (or a small food processor works well, too) until you have coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle topping over pears. Bake at 425 for 15 minutes.
  • Place sheet of foil over pie, and bake an additional 15 minutes or until pears are soft. Allow pie to completely before slicing and serving.





  • This is an amazing dessert, perfect if you live near an orchard like we do!
