Be honest with me: how many days each week do you actually eat breakfast? I see those eyes rolling through the computer screen! I’m on to you! Mainly because, I do the exact same thing – ha! It’s really awful, isn’t it? We wouldn’t let our little ones out the front door in the morning without giving them something to eat for breakfast. We want them to be ready and prepared for all the learning and social interaction they will engaging in that day. We want them to have the best possible start to their day because we care so much about them. And then, what do we say to ourselves? Pretty much the exact opposite. I’m too busy. I don’t have time for breakfast. Coffee is fine enough for me. Grab a handful of goldfish crackers as you’re filling the lunch boxes. Good enough. I know because I’m guilty as well! You guys, I did something radical. I took a 7 Day Breakfast Challenge. That’s right, for an entire week I forced myself to eat breakfast. And you know what? It was HARD! Mainly because it shook up my normal routine of getting the kids ready in the morning, and then settling down to finish my lukewarm coffee and beginning my morning work on the laptop. I didn’t realize how sacred that routine was to me! But I have to say, I clearly didn’t realize how utterly important it is to eat breakfast – specifically something nutritious for breakfast. Some days I was able to make myself a plate of eggs and lean sausage. Other days were just too busy to get out the pots and pans, so I grabbed either a Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Ready-to-Drink on my way out the door, or quickly mixed up some Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Vanilla Powder with some skim milk to enjoy while working at home. By the 3rd day, not only did I have way more energy for the tasks at hand, but my focus on work was awesome! I’ve been faithfully going to the gym 2-3 times each week in the mornings and I seriously went from dying after 12 minutes on the elliptical to over 22 minutes and feeling absolutely great afterwards. And yes, I do relate that to eating nutritiously every morning. I am a changed mom, friends! One of the mornings during my challenge, I decided to see if I could whip up something a little different with my Carnation Breakfast Essentials® powder – and this Peach Pie Breakfast Smoothie turned out to be a favorite with the entire family! It packs all the nutrition required for a long-lasting breakfast, but tastes insanely amazing. I added an optional swirl of whipped cream and sprinkling of crushed graham crackers to the top – but this can easily be skipped if you’re in a rush.
